the faculty of wonder.

sometimes we need to step back and regain our wonder at the world.

not at how billions of text messages are sent thousands of miles across the globe, or how the universe could be millions of galaxies wide.

but at how a teeny tiny inch worm scrunches. how a mother's eyes crinkle when she laughs. how a drop of rain feels on the feet.

I'll leave you to enjoy and ponder my collection of God's creation for a moment:
reveling in the rain

verbena

crepe myrtle

wave petunias
those "spit bubbles" the bugs build

at times I think we too are inclined to marvel at ourselves. how all those little cells function in unity to produce the master work of us. maybe that's why I'm so interested in biology + English..
how we interpret who (and what) we are.

I keep coming back to the idea of the inch worm. it scrunches together to move farther away... a bit of a paradox in and of itself. but just the child-like way the encounter was handled made me smile and realize what I've been missing as of late.

go climb a tree. or gaze at the moon. or hold a worm. or a petal. notice the intricacies in design, yet the simplicity in beauty. let yourself "oh" and "ah" over anything and everything.

most of all, have fun, and never crawl back into the comfy complacency of the rabbit's fur. at least not for long. crawl to the tips and hang on for dear life, staring in to the magician's eyes. as I have noticed, our friend the inchworm has chosen to do likewise on my brother's arm.

p.s. to understand the metaphor, go read the novel Sophie's World. (not light reading, but so worth it)

what has left you awestruck this week?
